Executive management transition at Atterbury

Atterbury, the leading South African real estate developer and investor, has taken the next step in its leadership succession plan, restructuring and realigning its executive management.

GDP grows by 1.4% in the fourth quarter

South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) soared by 1.4% in the fourth quarter of 2018, Statistics South Africa announced on Tuesday.

Many point to online retail as a key challenge to the Retail Property Sector, and no doubt it is one of the challenges, as technology marches forth.

JSE specialist shopping centre REIT, Hyprop, grew distributable income 6% on this time last year, resulting in 2.5% dividend growth for the six months to December 2018 (the period).

Growth in the value of outstanding credit balances in the South African household sector, which amounted to R1 641,5 billion, increased further to 5,9% year-on-year (y/y) at end January from 5,7% y/y at end-December and 3,7% the end of January last year.

Growth in trading density (sales per square metre) in 2018 at monitored shopping centres in South Africa and Namibia continued to improve after a lacklustre 2017, according to a retail property barometer.

Fairvest Property Holdings Limited today again announced solid results for the six months to December 2018, with interim distributions increasing by 8.3% to 10.616 cents per share. 

While economic conditions remain challenging, Redefine Properties (JSE: RDF) continues to align its strategy to long-term trends and proactively manage liquidity through the recycling of non-core assets.
