On Tuesday the 8th of May the GBCSA held a launch event at their new Johannesburg offices, Rosebank Corner, 191 Jan Smuts Avenue.

Green-Building-Council-SA

This by-invitation-only event was an opportunity for GBCSA’s guests and sponsors to see and experience for themselves why we say that our offices are physical expressions of our purpose, values and principles.

Gauteng is South Africa’s economic powerhouse and to ensure sustainability, the GBCSA is growing its presence within the province. Since its inception in 2016, the GBCSA’s Gauteng office was located in Braamfontein and the move to Rosebank signals a decision to occupy a space which is tailored to the needs of its members, stakeholders and staff. GBCSA’s Cape Town office continues to work from their similarly tailored, Green Star certified offices at Black River Office Park in Observatory. Teams in both cities work together to serve members and drive the green building agenda in Africa.

The GBCSA exists for and on behalf of its members and it is through a number of our members that the office is such a green gem. Firstly we would like to thank Redefine  for entering into a lease agreement with GBCSA at extremely competitive rates and for including a commitment to target Existing Building Performance Certifi-cation for the building thus growing their already substantial portfolio of Green Star certified buildings. We thank Moso Africa for contributing their sustainable and CO2-neutral solid bamboo boards and panels for worktops and components for the coffee station, Scan Retail for sponsoring the micro Tension Fabric System (TFS) sponsorship board. The TFS (Or Tension Fabric System) is easy to install and can be freestanding, wall mounted or suspended from the ceiling. Terramanzi Group, in collaboration with Ecocentric, for providing Green Star Accredited Professional services guiding the project from concept to target a Green Star Interiors certification thus ensuring that GBCSA continues to walk it’s talk.

We thank Execuflora for the design, installation and maintenance of indoor plants.

LG Electronics for sponsoring our remarkable LG Air Conditioning Multi V 5 Heat Recovery System, and keeping us cool through the summer season. Aurora for sponsoring the energy efficient interior luminaires, 600 x 600 flat LED panels, recessed LED down lights and recessed GU10 LED luminaires. Video Conferencing equipment which allows GBCSA to connect between Cape Town and Johannesburg as well as with members and stakeholders thus reducing high emission travel, is supplied by Proactive Videoconferencing Solutions.

Pentafloor, for the supply and installation of Shaw Contract’s Hexagon Linear Shift and Hexagon Plane in our main workspace; and Shaw Contract’s Dye Lab in the boardroom. The use of these Cradle-to-Cradle Silver certified products will contribute to the GBCSA’s targeted Green Star Interiors rating.

We thank Luminos for supplying highly technical window blinds for our building. The blinds have demonstrated strong functionality, aesthetics, quality and sustainability in their application.Belgotex for sponsoring flooring products - Duraturf synthetic turf innovatively applied to the walls and ceiling in the ‘Green Room’ and Davenport luxury vinyl plank for our interior fit out, and Prodec supplied us with high quality, low odour and low VOC paint to help contribute to the Green Star rating this office aims to achieve. Contributions from the Saint Gobain group include acoustic ceiling and wall materials from Ecophon to assist in creating remarkable acoustic environments within the office drywall partitions from Gyproc combined with Isover  insulating materials help minimise the environmental footprint of the office while improving comfort and well-being. Main contractor services were supplied by Koolcon who co-ordinated and managed the project on site from start to finish to deliver a top class finished product. A newly formed co-operative of young graduates from the Saint Gobain training academy sub-contracted to the main contractor for the installation of the wall and ceiling systems.

Recognising the importance of the operational phase of green buildings, GreenWorx Bio Cleaning Solutions will supply the new office with essential cleaning products for a year.

Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of these members and planet shapers for supplying products and services aligned with the Green Star Interiors rating thus ensuring that we collectively live up to our creed.
